THE THORNY STAIRCASE!

Lonely and o! Certainly so lowly a road
Unmannerly, unfriendly the horse I rode
Endlessly moody was the weather above
Not knowing rain or sun whether to serve
Curly, awkwardly curvy the seated terrain
Yet from a distance straight it does feign
Venomous serpents eternally flood the way
Endlessly serving poisons that overly weigh
Dastardly villains ever create diversions
Called ‘short-cuts’ with dire repercussions
No birds to sing the dawn sugar melody
Only chocking whispers of solitude’s prosody
But over my shoulders lay a beautiful path
Paved with sweet smelling roses and mirth
People seated having picnics in no hurry
Hardly seeking what their baskets did not carry
Each baking a cake that fitted in his plate
In the green fields, grass they did plait
Nothing hard, all simple and plain
All extra toil made soft lips complain
This led me to stop and give my ears
To seek and lean on the wisdom pillars
Of the treasure door to find the right key
Then ensued this mysterious soliloquy
‘Don’t you wait until you’re dead
Only to realize that you never lived
You either hold fear by the hand
Let it walk you to complacency’s land,
Or step thy feet on the thorny staircase
And continuously climb up to success’
